An old myth says that if you have eczema, you cannot wear woolen clothes. However, this is a claim with modifications. We receive daily feedback that children with atopic eczema can use our woolen clothes.
How can one decide which wool garments and which wool can be used?
- The quality of the wool is very important. Wool quality is measured in mics and a low micron value means long wool fibers and high-quality wool.
- If the wool fibers are long, they will not stick out and irritate the skin.
- The type of wool (from which sheep) also plays a role. Low micron-value merino wool is known to be the softest wool (from sheep).
- Kashmir wool (from a special type of goat) is even softer and gentler.
- It varies greatly from person to person. If you have a lot of eczema, you are probably more sensitive to different textiles as well.
- You must experiment and test different wool products on the skin.
WoolLand's clothes are made from the finest merino wool. Wool quality is measured in microns, and the lower the microns a garment has, the finer the wool. If the garment has a low micron value, this means that the fibers are longer and create finer ripples, which means that the garment is soft, durable and does not stick to the skin. If the micron value is below 21.5, it can be called merino wool, and therefore many wool garments are at exactly that level. WoolLand's products have a micron value of 18. This means that even those who struggle with, for example, atopic eczema, can often wear our woolen clothes without itchiness, and that wool can even make the eczema better. Clinical studies published in the Journal of British Dermatology showed that superfine merino wool helps children with eczema!
We recommend testing our wool to see the effect.
Our wool bodysuits have a micron value of 18.5.
YOU CAN BE SURE OF THE QUALITY IF YOU CHOOSE WOOLLAND
One of our customers wrote to us:
“Love woolland because it's the only wool my kids don't object to walking in. They have sensitive skin and atopic eczema, and anything else in pure wool is itchy. When it's also great and practical play clothes, I'm sold. I also love that it's durable and doesn't look like you're wearing underwear."
