This type of wool comes from the merino sheep. Merino wool is particularly fine and soft, and is particularly suitable for wool production. Our garments are mainly made from the finest merino wool and we get our wool from mulesing-free farms in Australia.

Why we love merino wool

While regular wool can be itchy and not very comfortable to wear, merino wool is much more flexible and softer than ordinary wool. But that's not the only reason why merino is so special to us.

A merino fiber can absorb and retain up to 30% of its own weight in moisture, while remaining dry to the touch. As your body heats up, you begin to sweat. Excess moisture is then absorbed by the wool fiber and released into the environment outside the fabric. Therefore, the wool layer keeps the skin dry while it also breathes. You might think that this system only works in colder climates, but that's not entirely true. Due to the special structure of the fiber, wool has both heating and cooling effects. Therefore, it is a material you can use all year round. How cool is that?

The merino sheep originated in Spain, but the modern merino sheep is today most widespread in New Zealand and Australia. WoolLand uses merino wool of 18.5 micron which is described as very fine merino wool quality, and we buy our merino wool from Australia where we can ensure that it is always free of mulesing. Details of products that include merino wool can be found on each product page.

Large parts of our collections are made of the finest merino wool, and are produced in various knitting methods with different functionalities: Interlock, Single Jersey and Hydroduct®.

Different knitting methods

INTERLOCK

Interlock is a knitting method that has a even and smooth surface on both sides of the fabric. This type of knitting results in thicker, stronger, and more elastic and durable fabric. They keep their shape well in the wash, even without artificial additives. The thickness of the fabric also makes it very absorbent, so it can be used for several types of garments.

Due to the many advantages of this knitting method, large parts of our collection is knitted in interlock.

SINGLE JERSEY

Single Jersey is a knitting method in the same vein as Interlock, except that in the products with jersey knit, all or parts of the garment are made of a thinner wool quality. The merino wool we use is of the finest quality and has a micron of 18.5, which ensures that the garment feels soft against the skin without itching. We use Single Jersey on garments that are intended to be used during high activity, so that it does not feel too hot and that sweat is transported more easily.

HYDRODUCT®

In our most technical wool garments, we use HYDRODUCT® as a feature. These are small panels that contribute to more air in the garment, which means that sweat and moisture are transported more quickly and that the garment insulates well, even when it gets damp.

HYDRODUCT® can be found on selected styles in our Active Sport collection, as this fabric is very suitable for high-medium activity levels that require you to keep your body warm.
